The prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy is finally set to begin filming. MGM and Warner Bros. have finally been able to get there stuff together. The real problem was that MGM went bankrupt. On October 8th they officially filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy which will allow them to commence work on many projects. The Hobbit has already cost the studio $30 mil in pre-production costs. The delays caused Guillermo del Toro to pull out as director, which in my opinion is not such a bad thing, as Peter Jackson will surely keep the films in line with the others. However that raises new issues, as the Screen Actors Guild and some other labor unions have labor disputes against Jackson. If those issues are not resolved the film might have to be moved from New Zealand to Europe, which then could cost the film some of it's key actors like Sir Ian McKellan(Gandalf), and Cate Blanchett(Galandriel). Hopefully this giant mess gets cleaned up so that filming can start in February like it's scheduled to.
